Expert Physiotherapy in Tunbridge Wells

Physiotherapy in Tunbridge Wells: Our Process

Welcome to our Tunbridge Wells physiotherapy clinic. Our clinicians are dedicated to helping people overcome pain and return to the activities they love.

Our physiotherapists use exercise, advice and manual therapy to address musculoskeletal conditions, pain and injuries.

Through a detailed physical examination your physiotherapist will be able to identify the structures and mechanisms causing the dysfunction. Once identified, they’ll provide an expert treatment plan to rectify these.

Common conditions that respond well to physiotherapy include the following:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee pain
  • Ankle pain
  • Hip and pelvic pain
  • Chronic pain conditions.
The Mummy Hub also offers scar therapy for any type of scar to restore movement function and reduce discomfort in the scar tissue.

Pre-Natal Physiotherapy

Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy (also known as PGP or SPD) is pain experienced anywhere in the pelvis but can also extend to the lower back pain, the perineum, hips and thighs.

Pain can occur at any time during your pregnancy but is common in the second trimester. It can make activities like going up and down stairs, getting up off the floor and turning in bed uncomfortable.

The symptoms can be due to your body changing through pregnancy, hormonal changes and muscle tension but stress, anxiety and lifestyle factors can play a part too.

It is common to experience changes to your bladder function during pregnancy. The pelvic floor muscles are under more load as the baby grows and some women experience stress or urge incontinence.

A pelvic health physiotherapist is experienced in the unique issues that can occur in pregnancy. We aim to help you progress through your pregnancy as comfortably as possible.

Through a personalised assessment, we’ll make a treatment plan that includes gentle exercises, manual therapy, and advice to relieve pain, improve posture and mobility and optimise pelvic floor function to keep you active and comfortable throughout your pregnancy.

Post-Natal Physiotherapy

After pregnancy and birth, many women find that their bodies have changed and a period of recovery and rehabilitation is necessary.

Getting back to normal after giving birth can take time. Often the abdominal and hip muscles are weaker, the pelvic floor function may have changed, you may notice your fitness levels are lower and you may have a scar (either from a c-section or perineal tear).

New mums can experience symptoms of incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain, discomfort having sex, diastasis recti and low back or neck pain. Physiotherapy can help with all of these symptoms as well as offering valuable advice for recovery from birth and returning to exercise and function.

We know that every new mother has different needs, so we make programmes just for you that focus on restoring your body’s health and function. This starts with a Mummy MOT assessment following which you receive a personalised plan with exercises to rebuild core strength, improve pelvic floor function, and increase general mobility.

You may need follow up management with specialist treatments like scar therapy, visceral mobilisation, more intensive pelvic floor management and advice, specific diastasis rehabilitation and support with return to exercise.
