Osteopathy in Tunbridge Wells

Welcome to The Mummy Hub. We provide expert care from our clinic at 40A Camden Road, supporting people across Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding areas.

While we have a special focus on women’s health, pregnancy and post-natal recovery, our osteopaths are highly trained to treat patients of all backgrounds.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissue, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms. They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

We know that visiting a new clinic can sometimes feel daunting, especially if you are in pain. We strive to make every visit to our clinic calm, comfortable and reassuring.
1. Consultation
Your appointment begins with a detailed conversation. We will discuss your current symptoms, your medical history and your lifestyle. If you are pregnant or post-natal, we will take the time to understand exactly where you are in your journey.
We will ask you to perform a few simple movements so we can assess your posture and mobility. We may also gently palpate (touch) the area to identify tight muscles or restricted joints.
We use a variety of gentle hands-on techniques tailored to your specific needs. This may include soft tissue massage, joint articulation or gentle manipulation to improve movement. We always explain what we are doing and ensure you are comfortable throughout.
You will leave with a clear explanation of what is causing your pain and a plan for how to manage it. This often includes simple exercises you can do at home to speed up your recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you do not need a referral. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners, meaning you can book an appointment directly with us.
Yes, osteopathy is generally considered safe and supportive during pregnancy. We use modified, gentle techniques to help accommodate your changing body and relieve the unique strains that come with pregnancy.
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, such as leggings or jogging bottoms. We may ask you to remove some outer layers to examine your back or posture, but we will always respect your modesty and ensure you feel comfortable.
Osteopathy is usually a gentle approach. While working on an injured or painful area can sometimes cause mild tenderness, we will constantly communicate with you to ensure the pressure is right. Most patients find the relief of tension to be a very relaxing experience.
