Post Natal Physiotherapy
Assessment

After pregnancy and birth, many women find that their bodies have changed and a period of recovery and rehabilitation is necessary.

Getting back to normal after giving birth can take time. Often the abdominal and hip muscles are weaker, the pelvic floor function may have changed, you may notice your fitness levels are lower and you may have a scar (either from a c-section or perineal tear).

New mums can experience symptoms of incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain, discomfort having sex, diastasis recti and low back or neck pain. Physiotherapy can help with all of these symptoms as well as offering valuable advice for recovery from birth and returning to exercise and function.

We know that every new mother has different needs, so we make programmes just for you that focus on restoring your body’s health and function. This starts with a Mummy MOT assessment following which you receive a personalised plan with exercises to rebuild core strength, improve pelvic floor function, and increase general mobility.

You may need follow up management with specialist treatments like scar therapy, visceral mobilisation, more intensive pelvic floor management and advice, specific diastasis rehabilitation and support with return to exercise.

Along with physiotherapy, we also offer specialist postnatal classes to support rehabilitation and return to exercise.
